According to the update, the ability of the SPU-21 to target inflamed epithelium suggest their potential use to target drug delivery. Silo’s novel joint homing peptides can be used to treat autoimmune diseases, which include but are not limited to rheumatoid arthritis (“RA”). This approach could enhance the therapeutic effect of current and future therapies and decrease potential toxicity. SPU-21 has potential for the development of fusion imaging molecules and/or nanoparticles to study arthritic pathogenesis. “The production and delivery of liposomes for our upcoming study with Frontage advances SPU-21 and allows us to further study anti-arthritic activity in animals,” Eric Weisblum, CEO of Silo Pharma, said in the press release. “We look forward to sharing the results of the study upon completion and data collection.”
