VolitionRx Limited (NYSE American: VNRX), a multinational epigenetics company, announced that results using its lateral flow finger-prick prototype were highly correlated with results from its established automated Nu.Q NETs test in critically ill sepsis patients, supporting the potential expansion of nucleosome testing beyond centralized laboratories. The company said the lateral flow test could enable rapid identification of high-risk patients in emergency rooms or at the bedside, with testing showing a Spearman correlation of 0.85 and Pearson correlation of 0.881 compared with its CE-marked laboratory assay.
The study, part of the SUMMIT program, evaluated capillary blood and plasma samples from intensive care patients and demonstrated significant correlation between the lateral flow prototype and automated assay. Volition said the decentralized format could facilitate faster clinical decision-making in sepsis and broaden testing to settings including doctors’ offices, emergency departments, intensive care units and potentially the home, while expanding access in countries with limited centralized laboratory infrastructure.
