High Fructose Intake May Worsen Inflammatory Bowel Disease
A new study by the Stony Brook University indicates that fructose consumption may actually aggravate an intestinal inflammation into inflammatory bowel disease. The study, which was led by David Montrose of the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine, was published in the Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology online journal. According to the U.S. CDC, roughly three million Americans are diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (“IBD”) each year, which is a one million increase in the number of cases in comparison with cases in the late 90s.
